GlocSquad Motorsports Anniversary Meet

In the car game, Spain is probably the last Country you think of when talking about modified cars right? Before moving here I did some extensive searching online and on social media only to find nothing! What a scary thought for me, having lived most of my life around cars, and moving to a new country where up until this day, felt like the “carlife” so to speak was non-existent in Spain. Like sheesh! Where does all the car content live that displays what Spain has to offer for the car enthusiast such as myself? I mean the bordering country, which is Germany, is flooded with car content, from the drift scene to circuit life, the content is readily available at our fingertips waiting to be consumed. I had multiple people tell me that there wasn’t even a car scene in Spain but boy were they wrong and so was I for accepting that for truth. Fast forward to the GlocSquad Anniversary Meet in Jerez, Spain, nestled far outside the main cities we all know like Madrid and Barcelona, a meet that I had no choice but to have low expectations on but to my surprise carlife is prevalent here and I can honestly say the get down out here! Even the cars that on the surface doesn’t look like much, clearly, excuse my French but fast as f*ck! I mean there’s simply no other way to put it. I was there having casual conversations and off in the background was nothing but 2steps going on and just based off of the sounds you and I both would expect to see some Jdm goodness but to my surprise it was mostly some unknown model cars that looked merely like economy cars and the European equivalent to what Kei cars are to Japan in some cases. I mean a further examination of my coverage will clarify exactly what I mean. Although there were some familiar cars there my attention quickly turned to the unfamiliar ones due to previously sleeping on the cars that had no aesthetic presence to begin with.

GlocSquad brings out some quality builds and upon speaking with a few owners, they come from all over the country just to support this Car Club. The event had all the normal things you would expect from a car meet like a proper Dj setting the vibes, catering with the good eats, vendors selling goods, and even had a few different contest to get the crowd involved! All in all it was a fun pack event with something going on no matter where your attention was directed. The event that seemed to get everyone going was the Step 2 contest which also included motorcycle participants which was cool! Just about every car there had power which quickly had me thinking to myself these people were absolutely with the shits and what I mean by that is there has to be a sick street racing scene. Jerez hosts the world famous “Circuito de Jerez”, known for MotoGP most notably, but also a plethora of car events so it shouldn’t be surprising that this city has a rich culture in motorsports and the thought that I was left with as I witnessed just about every car that was there popping flames and burning rubber, is that we possibly need to lower our expectations when it comes to what we deem as cool cars! Spain in a short amount of time living me has taught me a valuable lesson that I thought I already learned…Don’t judge a car by it’s cover!
